Club Activities

Monthly general meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month except for July and August. These meetings are open to the public!

We also organize an impressive number of other activities such as educational seminars, public outreach events, as well as group observing sessions throughout the year.

New RASC Web Blog (Yahoo Newsgroup)
We are excited about the new RACS Hamilton Yahoo Newsgroup. The new Newsgroup will do what the old  “Hamilton RASCals”  email distribution does only a LOT MORE. Not only can members post messages to distribute to all RASC Hamilton members, the newsgroup also has:

-    Photo Galleries – Create your own on-line photo album and share with other group members.

-    File/Document Repository – Got a favorite article, star chart,  news clipping, instruction manual, etc.? Just upload to the “Files Section” and share it with other members.

-    Web Links – Share your favorite websites with other members.

-    Post Messages : Have an announcement, need help with a problem? Simply “post” a message and members will reply (just like the old “Hamilton RASCalcs”).

-    Search old posts – Messages and responses stay in the searchable archives. You just may find the answer to your question there!

RC 16” Focuser Project Completed

The new RoboFocus unit has been installed on the club’s Optical Guidance Systems 16” RC Scope. The new motorized focuser will be a treat for both visual observers and astrophotography  users.  For visual use, you never have to touch (bang, bash, fumble) the focuser! Instead, use the buttons on the small hand controller. For you astrophotographers, we still have a bit of “housekeeping” to do. Once finished, the new RoboFocus unit will automate the tedious chore of focusing your camera.
